I can use my mobile phone now!

Our Digital Skills Devon project, in partnership with Wellmoor, supports people in rural and coastal communities to use their digital devices, with 1-2-1 sessions focusing on what they want to achieve, from accessing NHS services to connecting with family and friends.

We met with a particular client in the autumn of 2025, who wanted to improve their digital skills, particularly with their mobile phone as they were struggling to get the most out of it. The client's friends had attempted to assist them but they were finding it hard to retain the information they'd shared.

Once we had identified their needs and requirements, we worked with the client to find the best approach for them. Initially, we had agree to delivering the session for 2 hours. We quickly identified that shortening the sessions would suit them better. The client thrived in this environment, and their retention levels increased as a result.

One particular outcome the client wanted was to be able to take a selfie - they had been using the phone's back camera and hoping for the best but we were able to support them to use the front camera so they can see themselves and compose the shot. They were very pleased about this learning opportunity, and remarked, "I feel a bit silly now, I didn't know it was that easy!"

Overall, the client is now able to make much better use of their phone for a multitude of different functions and enjoyed the shorter learning sessions we delivered.
