Building Better Opportunities is a programme jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund.
Devon Communities Together is part of Petroc College’s partnership which will be using the funding to deliver a unique project for 18 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training. Called Empowering Enterprise, the programme will seek to engage over 600 of Devon’s most socially-excluded young people and work with them to develop their employability and life skills giving them the confidence to return to employment, education or training.
Devon Communities Together is working as the evaluation partner for the project, ensuring the identified outcomes for the project are being met. Beyond the direct impact on the 600 young people involved with the project, these include ensuring the partners and wider community are better able to support young people in to work and education beyond the lifetime of the project. Take a look at the 2019 Annual Report we produced.
Furthermore, Devon Communities Together have identified opportunities for local employers and voluntary organisations to provide work experience for young people engaged on the project. Devon Communities Together are now working to contribute to the rise of inclusive and diverse workplaces across Devon, by encouraging local employers to better understand the barriers (and how to remove them!) that are faced by many of the young people participating in Empowering Enterprise.
