WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR AND HOW WILL IT HELP?

This online course is for people who provide advice and support to people aged over 16 who have mental health issues.  It provides an overview of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), as well as details of the disability-related rules as they apply to people with mental health issues and tips on claiming. It also explains how the effect the benefit can have on other benefits.

Many of our clients have mental health issues and struggle to claim Personal Independence Payment successfully without help.  It’s a real problem mainly because the claiming process is so difficult and because so many people get turned down when the shouldn’t.  With the right information and support, things can change and this course will help you to play a part in making sure people get what they are entitled to.

Personal Independence Payment, after Universal Credit, is the benefit Citizens Advice gets more questions about than anything else.  It’s a real problem mainly because the claiming process is so difficult and because so many people get turned down when they shouldn’t.  With the right information and support, things can change and this course will help you to play a part in making sure people get what they are entitled to.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES

With an emphasis on mental health, the course will enable participants to:

  • identify key conditions of entitlement to PIP;
  • assist people with claims;
  • identify when and how to challenge decisions;
  • make appropriate referrals.
