Our Building for Life training helps people to use Building for Life 12 – the Government endorsed industry standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. This invites local communities, local authorities and developers to participate in a shared conversation about creating great places to live.


Juliet Bidgood

Juliet Bidgood is an experienced architect/urban designer who is expert in public space, public buildings and residential neighbourhoods. She has been a member of the South West Design Review Panel since its inception in 2005 and chairs its Housing Excellence Design Review Panel. She has developed design training for the RIBA, Creating Excellence and CABE. She is a trained Building for Life assessor and an experienced RIBA Client Adviser and project enabler. She advises on design policy, site and project brief development and design competitions. She teaches architecture and urban design at the Welsh School of Architecture. Before moving to the southwest she was a Senior Adviser at CABE and a founding partner of the award-winning practice; muf Architecture/Art.

Jo Widdecombe

Jo is a chartered town planner with over 20 years planning experience gained from working in the public, private, social enterprise and third sector environment – plan making through to development management. Mediator between competing views, uses, ambitions, to help create well designed solutions; particularly in her previous role as development management officer, and currently as freelance consultant and neighbourhood planning advisor. Currently, Jo is an associate with Creating Excellence working as a Design Panel Review Secretary and promoter of the recently published Design Companion; through the delivery of planning, design and placemaking training sessions to Members and Officers throughout the South West and East Midlands (with Opun).
