The hall was established in 1920 to commemorate victory in First World War and is based on a World War I building. It comprises an entrance hallway with ladies and gents toilets and a disabled toilet, a Main hall with a stage, a Billiard room with toilets and kitchenette, a Committee room, a kitchen and a garden.
The Main hall has capacity for 200 people or 100 seated and is widely used for village events. It has a new AV system installed in 2024 with a large drop down screen. During the week in term time, it is used by the adjacent Primary school for assemblies, P.E., drama and lunches. In the evenings and at weekends it is used for a wide range of recreational activities including yoga, short-mat bowls, History Society and Gardening club talks, gardening club shows, a Film club, children’s parties, children’s dance group, a model railway group, a line dancing group, a metal detecting group, a wine appreciation group and occasionally for band practice. The stage is used by the school and is available upon request.
The Billiard room has capacity for 20 people seated. It has a full size snooker table, dartboard, a small kitchenette and two toilets. It is used by Whimple Pre-school during the week in term time and several snooker and games groups, including an Over 60’s group.
The Committee room has capacity for 20 people seated and is situated between the main hall and the kitchen with direct access from the main entrance. It can be used as a convenient annex to the main hall or is used as an independent meeting room for various meetings including Parish council meetings and as a Polling Station for local and General elections and for the hall trustees’ meetings.
The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped for preparing and serving food. It is accessed through the foyer and also has an external door. See list of facilities below.
There is a 250sqm fully enclosed garden with capacity for 200 standing. Access is via the car park or through exterior doors in the Main hall. It has an outdoor wooden shelter structure and an electric socket.
