WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR AND HOW WILL IT HELP?

This course is for advisers who are familiar with the current social security and tax credits system and who wish to assist clients to consider options following a lost benefits appeal.  It will cover:

  • Options available after an adverse benefits appeal decision
  • The procedure for appealing to the Upper Tribunal
  • Identifying ‘a point of law’

Signposting for further help

Is it the end of the line if you lose your PIP appeal?  Not necessarily – you may be able to make a new claim or even to challenge or change the decision.  If you can appeal successfully, you might even open the door for other people to claim successfully in similar circumstances.  Come and find out how this might work.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To enable advisers to provide options for clients who are considering challenging an adverse benefits tribunal decision.

This course will enable advisers to:

  • List and explain the options following an adverse appeal decision e.g. new claim, setting aside, application for permission to appeal
  • Explain the procedures for challenging decisions i.e. applications for setting aside and for appeals to the Upper Tribunal
  • Explain what a ‘point of law’ is
  • Signpost to other services for further support
