DSV membership

  The Devon Senior Voice Network is part of the independent charity Devon Communities Together. It provides opportunities for people over 50 to be actively involved in their local communities, facilitating a range of support and training opportunities so that volunteers can use their skills, talents and experiences to support a variety of projects and help to meet community needs.

Volunteering roles within the network include:

  • Providing a voice for older people through engagement with a wide range of statutory organisations, and within the wider organisation of Devon Communities Together.
  • Participating in a range of voluntary roles within the varied project portfolio of Devon Communities Together, supporting communities throughout Devon. https://www.devoncommunities.org.uk/projects
  • Taking part in micro volunteering opportunities such as contributing to surveys, or using social media to promote the activities of the network and Devon Communities Together.

Vision

For older people to make a valued contribution to society in order to achieve their full potential and enjoy greater wellbeing.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for older people in Devon and supporting them to actively contribute to their communities.

Aims

  • To be a voice for older people, especially those less able to speak for themselves.
  • To raise awareness of issues faced by older people and to influence decision makers and inform society at large.
  • To maximise the skills and experience of older people for the benefit of the wider community.
  • To provide opportunities for older people to improve their quality of life through engagement with community based projects.

  1. The Devon Senior Voice Network is part of the independent charity Devon Communities Together. It provides opportunities for people aged 50 plus to be actively involved in their local communities.
  2. Devon Senior Voice volunteers provide a voice for older people through engagement with a wide range of statutory and voluntary organisations and groups covering a range of topics including; health, housing, transport, and fuel poverty.
  3. Further volunteering activities supporting community based projects enable volunteers to engage in their local communities, receive relevant training and support, and to improve the quality of life for others within their community.
  4. Members also have the opportunity to come together through local branch meetings and informal groups.

Branches

Devon Senior Voice has a network of local branches throughout Devon based on the market towns. Some hold regular meetings with speakers, others come together for special events and campaigns, others meet virtually and are in contact with members via email. Currently DSV is represented in the following towns:

  • Exeter
  • Ivybridge

  • Okehampton
  • Tiverton

Strategy Group

Devon Senior Voice has a strategy group which currently meet once every 6 weeks moving to once a quarter mid 2019, the strategy group was formed to act as an advisor to the chief executive of DCT on all aspects of DSV and in particular supporting the development and implementation of the DSV business strategy. 

Focus Groups

DSV has three specialist focus groups concerned with:

  • Transport
  • Health & Social Care
  • Housing

The Focus Groups address specific issues from the perspective of older people. They respond to consultations and seek to find solutions to issues that may impact on the lives of older people. If interested in joining any of these groups contact Lisa.
