What will the training include?
Rural communities across Devon are facing a serious shortage of affordable housing, meaning many people can no longer afford to stay in the villages they call home. This free online session will explore what your community can do to help address this. It will be delivered by Mandy Goddard, Devon Communities Together’s Rural Housing Enabler, and Alison Ward of Middlemarch Community Led Housing.
We’ll look at the key stages of rural housing delivery, from understanding need and finding land, to engaging the community, working with housing associations and ensuring any homes built remain available for local people in perpetuity. The session will highlight the crucial role of Parish and Town Councils and offer practical tools and guidance, including on whether a Community Land Trust may be right for your parish.
Whether you're just starting to think about housing in your parish or are already working on a project, this interactive session will provide clarity, inspiration, and support. There will be time for questions, discussion and sharing of experiences.
